Set in the backdrop of beautiful landscapes amidst deep gorges and stunning waterfalls is where the Cascade HomeStay is located in Sohra (which was previously known as Cherrapunjee). Sohra which holds the title of being the second wettest place on earth holds one of the best sightseeing attractions. The hills, gorges, canyons gives a surrealistic beauty to the place, it is a place to discover the Indian summer monsoons, the heavy monsoon rains in this region creates one of the rarest vegetations in the world and is truly a beautiful place for travelers waiting to be explored. There are various sights to visit which are located in the neighboring area of the HomeStay.

Dainthlen Falls
Among the most popular Sohra waterfalls is the Dainthlen Falls, 1km from the HomeStay. These are a set of mesmerizing waterfalls and among the most visited tourist destination even among the locals as it has an interesting legend associated with it.

There are rock carvings and caves nearby and legend has it that a giant snake was once killed near the caves, the snake was a symbol for greed and evil.

Weisawdong Falls
This 3 tier waterfall is a stunning work of nature with beautiful clear waters. Popular among tourists as a spot for trekking that will test your physical ability, the falls are a walking distance from the Home Stay and is best accesible during winters.

Mawsawa and Janailar Waterfalls
Some of the best untouched and peaceful waterfalls in Sohra are the Mawsawa and Janailar waterfalls, 2kms approximately, these two waterfalls are hidden gems for explorers of uncharted places.

Lyngksiar Waterfall
One of the most captivating falls in Sohra, the Lyngksiar falls derives it’s name from a rare orchid knows as “Tiew Lyngksiar” which blooms with golden petals in the forest around this particular area.

In the past, this spot was a fishing ground for the village community and would spend their leisure time in this area. This location is feasible for water sports,boating, fishing with proper infrastructure and good road service.

Mawsyrwait Cave
An untouched wonder of Sohra believed to have medicinal water in it, the Mawsywait cave is about 8kms from the HomeStay. The entrance to the cave is amazingly narrow and the interiors of the cave have very few pockets where one can stand straight. One has to crawl over the stream and a torchlight is absolutely neccessary.

Trek to Nongriat and Rainbow Falls
The living root bridges of Meghalaya are probably one of the most unique feats of using nature’s riches for connectivity. While the waterfalls of Meghalaya are considered to be the most beautiful in India, Nongriat is the place which has a combination of both.
We highly recommend a journey to Nongriat through traditional trails where you can enjoy an astonishing greenery around the Double-Decker living root bridge which is the biggest living root bridge and the lustrous Rainbow falls through Mawkawir where you can see actual rainbows over it when there is sunshine.

Surrounded by the beauty of idyllic nature, the Cascade HomeStay has an ambiance of simplicity and a pleasant environment for travelers to spend their days in. Miles away from the city rush it is an excellent destination for tourists who are eager to spend their time in peace and tranquility.

All rooms come equipped with a balcony, providing a good spot to gaze upon the vast natural environment. Guest privacy is very much respected, however we welcome all our guest for a chat, laughter and planning their itineraries etc.
We provide contemporary and authentic experiences to our guests especially to connect them with nature’s luxury. Sadly we don’t provide a TV or Wi Fi, however we do arrange for a bonfire during the night time on request with a very nominal charge.

At the Cascade HomeStay you can delight yourself on Chinese, Indian or the Local Khasi Cuisine. Indian Cuisine varies widely in terms of regional and tradiotional cuisines depending on each Indian subcontinent. These cuisines vary substantially from each other and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits.
The Khasi Cuisine is defined by dishes emphasizing on meat and rice, without any excessive usage of spices, that brings out a wholesome flavour in the meat. Although consumption of fish, beef and lamb is common, the focus is mainly on chicken and pork. Pork will be optional or will be available on pre order. All dishes are delicately prepared, with good care given to make the meat tender.
